October 2002 It took us 5 travel days to reach the Texas Hill Country...Fredericksburg to be exact. We stayed in this quaint town for 6 days before heading off to Austin and our son's wedding. Fredericksburg and the area around it and Kerrville are a "must stop" for any travelers. The area is scenic and historic and offers an abundance of excellent restaurants. We spent an afternoon visiting the George Bush Gallery of the National Museum of the Pacific War which is an outstanding museum depicting the Pacific Theater of World War II. Another day we traveled throughout the Hill Country area and visited the LBJ Ranch on a tour, which was an interesting view of a large working ranch in addition to being the "Texas Whitehouse" during LBJ's presidency. In Fredericksburg, we stayed at the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park which has walking trails, a golf course, lots of playing fields, and is only 3 miles from the main street. It's a popular campground, so we were fortunate to have a space...reserve early if you know you want to be there! Photos: Above: Fredericksburg , LBJ Boyhood Home, LBJ Cemetery Below: Hamilton Pool and Grotto near Austin, TX We will be traveling back to the San Diego area the last week of October, so shall not update the site until Nov. We're going to bypass El Paso returning to CA (too much roadwork) and shall instead travel via Carlsbad, NM and revisit the Caverns that we saw eons ago if there is time.
