March & April 2006

March 2006

We're in Bend, OR where it's been snowy, rainy, and cold...but we're having fun! It's a treat to "visit" winter and really not have too many obligations other than to enjoy it. Our trip here was made with the usual stopover in Junction City, OR for some service to our RV and Jeep, but then the adventure was to try to get over one of the mountain passes before the "next" storm hit. We bought chains for both the RV and Jeep, so armed with the security of those, we attempted the Willamette Pass (because the weather forecast showed no wind there vs. 28 mph wind in the Santiam Pass which was our only other option.  We did need to use the chains, but found that the chains for the RV were too large! However, we took a chance after several truckers told us we could make it OK, and were able to make it over the pass easily. Good we did when we did, because the storm moved in the next day and dropped another foot or so plus on the pass.

Our last weekend in Bend...check out Jan./Feb. 2006...see anything similar?

About broke our necks getting to this waterfall...ice and snow the whole trail. We really needed crampons.M
