February 2003 California to Oregon (Don't forget the beveled edge photos are "thumbnails" so click on them to see the larger photo, then use your "Back" button to return here.) Overnight at Heceta Head Lighthouse, Florence, OR Our rig was getting serviced, so we took advantage of a vacancy at the Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast just north of Florence, OR to spend a night away from our coach. It was a perfect day to visit our favorite lighthouse on the Oregon coast. We spent most of the afternoon photographing the lighthouse, as well as just sitting on the porch enjoying the tremendous view. The highlight to us was viewing the lighthouse at night. We took our flashlights and walked the path to the lighthouse where we were mesmerized by the rays of light radiating out in 8 arms for as far as we could see. It appeared like we were under a giant carousel. The night was brilliantly clear, so stars were everywhere...only the sound of the crashing surf was heard. The next morning we had a delicious 7-course breakfast along with the history of the lighthouse. If you ever get the opportunity, this was something we'd highly recommend! We'll return again, for sure! Here's a link to a webcam that is shows Heceta Head and is updated every two minutes! http://www.sealioncaves.com/2root/webcam.shtml Check it out!
Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield, CA...an abundance of oranges! They begged us to pick them...so we obliged. Weed, CA. Jan and Mount Shasta The trip up I-5 from San Diego to OR was gorgeous! The San Joaquin Valley was in full bloom with flowering almond trees, etc. Our stopover at the Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield yielded about 18 pounds of oranges...which was matched the next day by about the same amount of Jelly Bellys from the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield! (They sell "seconds"..ie "Belly Flops" for less than $2 a pound.) This is definitely one of the prettiest times to travel along the I-5 corridor. Mount Shasta appeared larger and larger in our window until we reached our campground at its base in Weed, CA. Brilliant with its snow! Roseburg, OR. Early Spring on the Umpqua River. This is the river that our campground was on. Twin Rivers Vacation Park, Roseburg, OR...lovely site |
