Heading North to Alaska

No...we ended up heading south due to the deterioration of Jan's dad's health...ultimately his death the day we arrived...so we are in So. CA for the next few weeks.  He had Alzheimer's, so his death was not totally sad...we had lost him several years ago in reality.

Our "circle" of this year's trips seems to just be constant! This is the third trip between OR and CA.

The heat wave was bad in the west, so we decided to head to the coast as soon as we could. Wise choice...61 degrees for a high there! From Lodi, CA we headed via a stopover at the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield (for a supply of Belly Flops) to Willits where we found a wonderful campground hidden in a valley which offered a quiet respite, along with several flocks of wild turkeys to entertain us.  In the evening we watched as the whole family of turkeys (mother, father and 14 young) flew into a nearby oak tree for the night...two by two....a few of them having trouble on takeoff!

We had planned a stopover in Crescent City, CA to see the Battery Point Lighthouse.  Once there, we found it a terrific place to spend a few days, so we extended for 3 nights which enabled us to spend a lovely day at the beach as well as a day to tour the nearby redwood forest.  The "Scenic Drive" in Crescent City is easily accessed even if you are driving your rig/toad combo. Lovely views of the lighthouse (accessed at low tide only) and the rocky beaches.

After meandering along, stopping in Coburg, OR (repairs/service) and Bend, OR (friends, family) we'll head to AK via plane for a couple of weeks. No updating the website until the end of the month.

By the way...101 has had a lot of good repairs done, so it's much better than when we traveled in early Spring....no problems encountered.
