ALLAN FAMILY GENEALOGY Some photos
This is the photo album of Magdalene ALLAN b. Aug. 12, 1858 in Newbattle, Midlothian, Scotland. She carried this album across to the USA on the boat in Aug. 1879.
In the summer of 1879, David and Elizabeth Allan and their children who were still living at home, boarded a ship for America, the S.S. Devonia. Magdalene celebrated her 21st birthday on the water, crossing the Atlantic from Glasgow, and landed in NYC on Aug. 18, 1879. She is listed on the ship's passenger list with her father and brother Alexander. They settled in Morris, IL where her father worked in the mines. Magdalene worked as a servant for Irvin Bean, a druggist, and his family. She met Donald McVicar through her brothers, who being miners, rode the train each day. They were married Nov. 9, 1882 in the Presbyterian Church in Morris, IL. Below are pages from the photo album.
