January & February 2007

My knee is well on its way to recovery at this point (4+ months post op) but I'm gearing up for the next round on the left knee to be done in March, so again, we will not be showing a lot of traveling for the next few months. We did take a visit to the San Diego Wild Animal Park located just north of San Diego, which, in our opinion, is a "not to be missed" destination in this area. We've watched it grow over the years and are always impressed with how it's matured. Allow a full day to see it, and remember it's always the warmest spot in San Diego County, so dress accordingly.

A few photos:

Giraffes at the San Diego Wild Animal Park (far left is "feeding area" to see in next photo.)

My mom feeding the giraffes...note the blue curly tongue on the giraffe. ($2 to feed them, but great for all ages!)

Borrego Springs, CA...We are taking 2 weeks here to enjoy the sun before heading back to Oregon the first week of March.  The weather's been windy, but we've been able to take one hike into a canyon...my first hike since my knee replacement. The canyon was beautiful, but definitely shows the scars from the torrential rains of several years ago.  We missed seeing any Big Horn Sheep (hikers just after us said they saw 9 of them), but saw some hummingbirds.

The best sites of all...Dry Camping at The Springs at Borrego...views are terrific!
The park was full, so we had to leave our full hookup site and stay here for 3 nights...not a bad alternative!

Hummingbirds are all around here.
